I went to this awesome restaurant with a Japanese pub vibe. They've got delicious skewers, cocktails, and all sorts of tasty dishes! On my visit, I went for a bunch of small plates, loads of skewers, appetizers, and a few drinks. I highly recommend the skewer platter and the U-bae killer drink! We got seated right away at 12:30 on a Saturday (although we did make a reservation just in case) and our server was super nice and checked on us a lot! I'm definitely coming back to try out the special dishes, rice and noodle bowls, and sushi. Can't wait for my next visit!

First, the interior was beautiful. There's a very spacious bar seating area and while the restaurant looks fairly small from the outside, it's very spacious inside with a lot of seating available. They have cute lights and decor all around so it adds to the experience. Do note that parking is very limited around the area and tends to fill up quickly with other restaurant patrons so parking could take awhile and be a bit difficult. The food was pretty good. We had a few of their skewers which were good but not mind blowing. We also had their creamy udon which was super tasty and filling. The flavors were very strong which I love. They also have a wide selection of drinks to choose from! We didn't try them this time but we saw a couple that others were drinking and I will say all of the drinks were very aesthetic and looked delicious! Will definitely be trying one next time I go.

I never heard of this place until my friends wanted to dine here. It's a trek from Rockville, but for some divine reason there was no traffic on the Beltway this evening! So, I was already in a great mood. It's an interesting location with no parking really around the restaurant. Had to park in the visitor parking in the adjacent apartment complex. Interior was nice. Our waitress was very friendly and explained the menu and even mentioned which items were her favorite. We were a party of four, so we sampled quite a few dishes. Our consensus was the Torched Sea Fatty Salmon, Yakitori platter and the Mentaiko Udon were the highlights. We also enjoyed the Wagyu Tataki, Japanese Grilled Squid, Karaage and several of their rolls. They had a good cocktail menu and beer list. I did enjoy the sparkling sake and Sapporo draft beer. But since it was pretty packed, the wait for the drinks was a little too long. Next time, I do want to try their Tornado Omelet Fried Rice (I saw this on almost everyone else's tables) and the Toro Bowl. It is a bit pricey though.

Came here for lunch, it feels like an authentic Japanese restaurant as it's decorated so well and the seats are in little booths so it's very cozy. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us a good run down of what to expect for portions, which was helpful. We ordered a bunch of skewers, my favorite was the eel skewer, but the mushroom skewer was also decent. For hot appetizers, we got the takoyaki and miso soup (which came in a spicy version which i've never had before) both were very fresh and flavorful. For the main meals, we got the tornado omelette rice, which was chicken fried rice w with a curry sauce around it, and we also got some yaki udon. The yaki udon was a little plain, but the fried rice was delicious. For dessert, we got the yuzu cheesecake, not too sweet and very subtle yuzu flavor. Would definitely come again, and would try the drinks next time because there were lots of options and looked pretty good!

I was pleasantly surprised by Genki and wish it was located more conveniently to me so that I could go more often. The menu is absolutely massive, which I thought would foreshadow mediocrity, but everything was on point. The indoor decor was charming, but there are no walls to dampen the sound. I was catching up with a friend for a double date and we had to speak with very raised voices which is the only reason I have docked a star. I was flabbergasted at how crowded the place was on a Monday at 7pm for being in the suburbs -- I can't imagine how crowded they get on the weekend. I ordered the Spirited Away cocktail which tasted fine, but the edible design on top became difficult to drink around and stuck to my lips. It wouldn't have been possible to consume it as part of the drink because it became gelatinous. The spicy miso ramen had good flavor in the broth and good noodle texture. I also ordered the anago skewer and the inari sushi. The agedashi tofu was cooked well, but a bit too salty. I also ordered the scallop with yuzu and it delivered on bitter citrus and bouncy texture. I also ordered sparking sake to celebrate my friend's engagement and we had taiyaki for dessert. The taiyaki was more of a mochi texture (think jin dui at dim sum), but it was the perfect size to share and it came in two different flavors. I want to go back soon to try the stone-cooked wagyu, katsu curry, and curry udon. It's a great experience that transports you into a special little world, though I hope they do something to make it quieter inside.

Very nice environment, Food was amazing, Great service, The bartenders might take some shots with you !

I came here with a group of friends and although we didn't have reservations; we were lucky to be seated right away. Tip: be sure to get on the waitlist bc it does get busy especially during evenings/weekends. Ambiance: The space itself isn't large but it is uniquely separated with a bar area, high table top area and a dining booth area. The design makes the restaurant seem bigger than it is. Decor is bright and airy. Feels like you stepped into a Japanese pub. Service: The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. I was really cold and the waiter noticed and brought over hot tea for me to warm up. 2 thumbs up for the kind and courteous service! Food: Yakitori platter- loved this so much. I would come back for this platter alone. So much flavor and cooked to perfection. Chirashi bowl- sashimi was cut into large pieces and tasted fresh. The rice to sashimi ratio was also good. Assortment of sushi: not the best I've had but it was decent. Spicy tuna hand roll- Sooooo good! I think it was the highlight of my meal. Will be back to try their extensive food and drink menu! Highly recommend!

If you are looking for an Authentic Japanese food, this place is for you absolutely . The food here brings back the feelings I have tasted in Japan and the ingredients are prepared very meticulously and fresh. The sashimi here is really delicious and I appreciate the freshness of the fish (bonus; the pieces of fish are sliced large so eating feels very satisfying). Although the menu has many dishes, each dish is meticulously and beautifully made. You must definitely try the Omelette tornado rice here. I'll definitely have to order more of it in the next few weeks because it's truly addictive . PLEASE COME AND TRY IT YOURSELF, THEY R NOT GONNA LET YOU DOWN. P/s: The staff is extra nice too

We really enjoyed our recent dinner experience at Genki Izakaya. The food was delicious with fresh ingredients and the portions of each dish ordered seemed "just right". We have a specific sushi bar that we enjoy in the area and found Genki Izakaya's sushi offerings on par with it. That was nice! The pineapple cocktail we ordered was a bit watered down. However, the Old Fashioned tasted great. Perhaps the pineapple mix behind the bar that evening was on its last legs when we ordered it. Our server was extremely nice and pleasant with us and we enjoyed our interactions with him throughout the evening. We appreciated his menu recommendations too! As well, the entire restaurant staff looked engaged with all guests at all times. You rarely see this now at other restaurants, post-Pandemic. In terms of the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant, we felt comfortable and relaxed at the bar style seating area we were at - near the kitchen - on a very busy Friday night. We could comfortably converse with each other during our meal. Lastly, we really enjoyed the overall decor and style of this eating establishment. We will return soon!
